The Perspective Of Typology Of Relative Clause In The Ming And Qing Dynasties

The purpose of this thesis is to research “zhe zhi de zero-marker” of relative clause structure in Modern Chinese From two perspectives of language typology and functions in synchronic and diachronic.The first part is the introduction.we first introduce its significance in this paper.Then summarizes the research status and deficiencies of relative clauses in recent years,basing on the perspectives of language typology.And introduce the definition of relative clause and relative clause markers,the research content of this thesis,the source of the corpus.The chapter one to the chapter fourth explore from four aspects,including typologic features,relativization strategies,verbal phrases structure and the role of the head noun in the relative clause.We analyze the “zhe” “zhi” “de” “zero-marker” kinds of relative clause to find out its characteristics of typology.The fifth chapter comparative and analysis the similarities and differences among the four kinds of relative clause,we can arrived at: Firstly,Most of the chinese relative clause precedes the head noun,but at the same time there are some relative clause follows the head noun.Secondly,“Ji Chun Tai” keep most archaism,the evolution of the relative clause is slow.Thirdly,Predicate-object,subject-predicate and shape dynamic structure is most common of the VP structure of the four kinds of relative clause,structure is generally not more than six syllables,the structure is concise.Fourthly,The relative clause in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the extraction of nominal composition is not completely follow “Noun Phrase Accessibility Hierarchy”,it is very difficult to extract the indirect object.And try to explain these characteristics.The sixth chapter summarizes the main characteristics of the relative clause in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The relative clause in the Ming and Qing Dynasties mainly has these characteristics: Firstly,The relative clause is diversely in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Not only has the ancient legacy(e.g.“zhe” “zhi” kinds of relative clause)but also has the development(“de” zero-marker kinds of relative clause).Secondly,making a contrastive study on different relativization strategies in ancient and Ming Qing.The same is that they both adopt the gap strategy,The difference is we can adopt pronoun-retention strategy in Ming and Qing Dynasties.Thirdly,the kinds of “zhi” relative clause mainly extract the subject in ancient,but in the Ming Qing is mainly extract the oblique objects.And extract the object must be combined with “suo” in ancient,but it don't need in Ming Qing.Fourthly,The relative clause mainly extract the subject in Ming and Qing Dynasties.The last part is the conclusion.In this part we summarizes the main ideas of the thesis,put forward some problems and shorcomings and the direction of further research on the issue.
