A Cognitive Study Of The Conceptual Metaphors In The Jin Yun Qiao Zhuan

Mainly based on cognitive linguistics,through deeply and detailedly analyzing the metaphorical expressions in this novel,several findings can be drawn from this book as follows: the first,in the metaphorical expressions of The Jin Yun Qiao Zhuan,there exists four principal domains: ANIMALS,PLANTS,METEOROLOGY,ARTICLES,and three target domains: HUMAN BEINGS,LIFE,EMOTION.The second,this thesis has revealed the conceptual metaphor system behind the lines.It is THE FEUDAL SOCIETY IS THE NATURAL WORLD.In this system,there are three mappings.They are a)HUMAN BEINGS ARE ANIMALS,PHLANTS,METEOROLOGY and ARTICLES;b)LIFE IS PHLANTS,METEOROLOGY and ARTICALS;c)EMOTION IS METEOROLOGY and ARTICALS.The third,the novel expresses the theme through establishing the conceptual metaphor system of THE FEUDAL SOCIETY IS THE NATUARAL WORLD—uncovers the feudal bureaucrats' malpractice,oppression and corruption,the nobilities' relying on power and position and bullying the weak,the human traders' no conscience,the bullies' snatching,the military officers' cattiness and cunning,the sinister and ruthless of the scum of society,castigates the darkness of the feudal society and the degeneration of feudal system in Vietnam at that time,at the same time also expresses the writer's proposition of humanitarianism,the writer's sympathy to the oppressed people,especially to the oppressed women and the writer's indignation to the inequal phenomenon of society.The fourth,the experiential basis in this book bases on the life experiment of Chinese ancient people and the writer himself.Therefore,it can also prove that Jin Yun Qiao Zhuan is not the writer's original creation,but the writer created it base on the culture of China.This thesis confirms the main views of cognitive metaphor that metaphor is embodied and has its own system.
