"Childhood Sweetheart" is one of the modern Japanese writer-Ichiyo Higuchi's the most representative work which also has the highest evaluation,it's also a criticism of realism.Ichiyo Higuchi experienced a series accidents like broken off an engagement by her fiance,broken with her brother,lost father and so on.The family accident forced them to live in the bottom of the society—Longquan Temple.They had to live in this poor district for a long time.The new life broke Ichiyo's romantic and beautiful life style,from then,there is a new understanding and thinking to this society begin to root in her mind.Ichiyo witnessed that women as male's accessories in this feudal society,they lived a very low,humble life and they were controlled by others like father or husband.At the same time,Ichiyo realized that the man control the whole society,they're cold,hypocritical and ungrateful.Childhood Sweetheart is a thinking of Ichiyo which is to children's fate in feudal society.She showed us that the children under the guidance of the social style in Longqun Temple formed a very wrong view of their lives and they lived a very absurd life style through the work.With the character of Midori,Jimoto,Tanaka and other children,Ichiyo showed us all kinds of life styles of different social positions meticulously,including the scolding to whore institutionalization and the sympathy to the children under the feudal patriarchal system.Ichiyo described the reality softly but at the same time she criticizes the reality hardly.
