Creativity is closely related to the mind and motion existed in persons and groups.Meanwhile,ceativity is embedded into visible social contexts to shape its locus and direction in different ways.City is the origin of creativity and attracts the creative class by its special qualities.Moreover,the interaction within the creative spaces enables the creative class and social network to combine organically.As the window and bridge of Chinese foreign economy,Shanghai develops its flourishing creative economy on the basis of the creative network inside.In 2010,Shanghai is appointed to the United Nations Creative Cities Network as the eighth city of design.Shanghai is also one of the global financial centres,the role of which is enhanced with the establishment of the Free Trade Zone,that provides the creative class with a broder global market.As the important pillar industry,cultural and creative industry has become a significant force of innovation-driven development and economic transformation and upgrading.Comparing to the research situation abroad,the Chinese scholars focus on the spatial distribution and spatial-temporal evolution of creative clusters,whereas pay little attention to the inner network and mechanism of the clusters.On the basis of the theory of quality of place and the theory of creative field,and the field research including 15 depth interviews with designers in Shanghai,this paper mainly focuses on the formation mechanism of the urban creative network in Shanghai,which may provide some worthy suggestions for Shanghai government when building an excellent global city.This paper is formed from six chapters.And the first chapter gives an introduction of the research background,the research significance,the research objects,the research contents,the research methods and the innovative points.The second chapter embraces lectures of creative clusters,the theory of creative class and the theory of creative field,which supply a theoretical foundation for the research.The third chapter inroduces the research area and two research methods,the qualitative research and spatial analysis.Based on the theory of quality of place and the depth interviews with 15 designers,the fourth chapter builds a system of quality of place,which reveals the reasons for Shanghai attracting the creative class.And on the basis of the theory of the creative field,the fifth chapter consists of the spatial analysis of creative spaces,the construction of urban creative spatial network and a case study of KTGA Spring Festival,which express the imperative role of the creative spatial network when forming social networks among the creative class.Last but not least,the conclusion part gives the main findings as well as some clues for further research.
