A Study On Verbal Irony In Interaction From Implementation&Response And Its Cognition Model

As a language phenomenon,verbal irony is commonly used in daily communication,it is a speech act with quite strong illocutionary force,as well as it is an indirect way of expression which is of special value.In this study,verbal irony in Chinese is defined as:verbal irony is a part of irony,which means the speaker express the non-positive attitude with indirect expression or contented attitudes towards someone's remarks or behaviors with indirect expressions.Opposition is the intrinsic properties of verbal irony which exists in three levels of verbal irony,saying psychological,utterances and context,utterances and true meaning.This study is based on the speech act theory and verbal irony theory.In the thesis,verbal irony in Chinese context is studied in some aspects according to verbal irony corpuses in communication such as the implementation,context,respond and cognition model.The framework of multi-contextual origins of verbal irony conversations in communication is established know from the context in text analysis.Based on this framework,two-way interactions between verbal irony and multi-context are discussed in this study.The responses of verbal irony often co-occur with direct communication and they are discussed in this thesis from various aspects such as content and functions.Meanwhile,the influence factors of selecting ways of responses is discussed according to the auditory and visual information provided by the corpuses.There is a trial of establishing a cognition model of verbal irony,which is called Multi-Contextual Adaptable Idealized Cognition Model,in order to elaborate the mental process of verbal irony cognition.In conclusion,this study attempts to avoid the limitation of the previous study which appears to be decentralized,discussed the implementation of irony from embodiments and functions.We also keep an eye on the emerging ways of verbal irony,analyzed the response of irony as well as the influence factors.A comprehensive cognition model of verbal irony is established taking multi-context and pragmatic presupposition into consideration.
