In the 19th century,during the romantic period of Italy,Vincenzo Bellini,due to his great influence to opera,was considered another quintessential composer of Italian opera after Rossini,a representative creator in the development of Italian opera.The operas including "Sleepwalking","Norma",and "Puritani" he composed were all hot plays in western opera stage.Among them,the masterpiece of Bellini,"Puritani",which covers romantic literature and typical opera subject,has always made a great sensation and reaction ever since its debut show.However,Bellini's opera was given little attention;instead,most attention was given upon composers like Rossini and Verdi.Bellini died very young,leaving a few operas featured with sweetness and tenderness.And that was what was pursued in the romantic era.Baritones in the opera"Puritani" were characterized vividly,and this paper is aimed at exploring the opera in a detailed way by making an in-depth analysis of one of Richard Fox's work of aria.This article will be discussed from three aspects.The first chapter is about the artistic career of Bellini and his opera;the second chapter analyzes the plot of "Puritans" and baritones;And the work by Richard Fox is briefly expounded.The structure,harmony,and music style of "oh,I Never Lost Her'' are discussed.The author tries to make a detailed discussion of the singing style and provide reference for further exploration to scholars who are motivated to make a research in this field,with the combination of his own experience in aria of vacancies.
