A Research On Daochuo's Pure Land Ideology

Daochuo is an important Buddhist in the history of Chinese Buddhism.Shandao inherited his thoughts which Daochuo absorbed from Tanluan.He made great contributions to the development of pure land Buddhism.The paper applies the literature analysis methods and also combines bibliography and history of philosophy,which is made up of three parts,including the analysis of the background,the components,and the core influences of Daochuo's thoughts in Amitabha's Pure Land.The book of Daochuo that has existed is just ANLEJI,which is the only historical material for studying Daochuo's pure land thoughts.This article expounds Daochuo's pure land thoughts from five aspects,which include Daochuo's defense about pure land ideology,the theory of Buddha Dharma suits Times,theory of the Gate of Holy Path and the Gate of Pure Land,the practice method,and the theory of Sambhogakaya and Sambhogakaya realms.There are many misconceptions about pure land in Buddhism.Daochuo refuted these wrong perceptions from three aspects which are the unity of Paramartha and Samvrti-satya,no pure land thought in Theravada Buddhism,the advantage of Amitabha's Pure Land.In addition,Daochuo analysed the meaning of Kalantarabhipraya,and explained how to read Amitabha's name and rebirth in the pure land before death.Daochuo's defense about pure land ideology makes more and more people to believeAmitabha Faith.In the Dharma Ending Period,Buddha was died for a long time,so people are hard to achieve Buddhahood.Based on the theory of Buddha Dharma suits Time,Daochuo suggested that people should choose the most appropriate method of practice according to the right time and one's capabilities.Daochuo put forward the theory of the Gate of Holy Path and the Gate of Pure Land was based on the theory of Buddha Dharma Suits Times and the theory of Two Ways and Two Powers of Tanluan.Daochuo expounded the connotations and distinctions of the Gate of Holy Path and the Gate of Pure Land and illustrated that people should choose the Gate of Pure Land.Which method should we choose?Daochuo advocated that people need take "chanting samadhi" as the main aspect and "chanting sutra by Buddha's name" as the orthodox way.He improved the method in the aspect of practice,and the method is to line the beads,which makes people more convenient to read Amitabha's name.There was a lot of arguments about Amitabha is Sambhogakaya or Nirmanakaya and the pure land is Sambhogakaya realms or Nirmanakaya realms.Daochuo put forward to the theory of "Amitabha is sambhogakaya",and "the pure land is Sambhogakaya realms".Daochuo divided the pure land into Xiangtu and Xingtu,and pointed out that ordinary people can be born.In conclusion,Daochuo's pure land ideology has many unique connotations,based on the analysis of his thoughts.What's more,Daochuo's pure land ideology has a deep effect on the later Buddhist,at the same time,which has promoted the thoughts of pure land spreading widely in China and abroad.
