Research On Pure Land Thought Of ANLEJI

As an important works in the history of Pure Land, DaoChuo's ANLEJI systematically discusses the basic theories and practical methods of salvation by faith in Amitābha Buddha. This work influenced Pure Land deeply. To a large extent, it promoted that Pure Land became an independent school. This essay mainly explained the pure land thoughts of ANLEJI in three aspects. First, Classification of Teaching theory, Second, Western Pure Land thought, Third, methods of recitation of the Buddha's name for the purpose of attaining rebirth in the Western Heaven (Pure Land) First, Classification Teaching theory. DaoChuo put forward the theory of the Gate of Holy Teaching (shengdaomen) and the Gate of Pure Land based on Nagarjuna and TanLuan's thoughts. He thought the whole Buddhism the Pure Land depends on Amitabha's wish, the Shengdao depends on self-power. Compared with the Shengdao, the pure land is easier to practise. So DaoChuo established the highest position of Pure Land and laid the conceptual foundation for independent development of Pure Land school. In ANLEJI, DaoChuo put forward definitely "If Buddha dharma suits Times and Aptness, people will practise and learn Buddha dharma easily; If not, people will practise and learn Buddha dharma difficultly."So he thought that now it is the latest times of dharma. For people's weak comprehension, they would understand Buddha dharma difficultly. But the pure land was the sole convenient Buddhism dharma-gate, which is suit for people's aptness. Therefore, people should choose the Pure Land. Considering of the independent of Pure Land, he firstly raised the Patriarch of Pure Land, though existing shortages, but the Patriarch has strong foreshadowing to standard of the Patriarch of Pure Land. Second, DaoChuo described a wonderful ideal world which people desired. This is the Promised Land of Amitābha Western world where Amitabha sponsored 48 wishes in our living world and based on his practice and efforts. In this world, the whole things are nice, the natural landscapes are enjoyable, the people's life are comfortable, the whole supplies are enough, the Buddha and Bodhisattvas all have various magical powers, etc. All the fine looks implicit the theory of "Gangluexiangru". "Guang"(means total feature) pointed the 'reality-body' is for absolute existence, the manifestation of all existences. "Lue"pointed all the things of western pure land , including various aspects of nature and society, also is difference feature or all existences. So "guangluexiangru"means that the total feature includes the different features, the different features reflect the total pure feature, the both sides depend mutually, not to be separated. This relationship is "guangluexiangru". Third, DuoChuo attached importance to Chengmingnianfo (recitation of the Buddha's name). It has important meaning to the development of Pure Land. This part mainly from faith and practice to explain the practice dharma-gate. Faith in Amitabha Buddha is the most important affairs ,is also the key of going to the pure land. Then how to start faith? It needs getting rid of the people's doubts and prejudices, where DaoChuo explained it from three aspects. Firstly, West pure land is a real fruit world, then it provided the ture theorical foundation for West pure land. Secondly, people can go to West pure land, it is accordience with the wusheng thoughts of Mahayana, so the thought of going to Western pure land has a strong appeal to people.
