Research On Space Of Folklore Festivals In Qingdao Based On The Theory Of Urban Catelysts

Folklore festivals are an important component of urban culture.They,as urban historic heritage,represent the integration of indigenous characteristic material and non-material culture and build links between the public and folklore culture.Urban folklore festivals are celebration activities and special events conducted in cities,displaying and preserving urban culture,as historical and cultural foundations to a city and parts of regional special culture as well.The planning of the space of urban folklore festivals directly influences the success of festivals,the preservation of local culture and even further the overall development of a city.Qingdao Rudish-Yuanxiao-Tangqiu Festival is the most historical,famous and influential folklore festival.It,developed in the area around Haiyun Temple,displays folklore culture in Qingdao and place around during the Chinese Spring Festival.It is a main approach to preserving local culture in Qingdao and a bridge between local people and local culture in modem society.Public space with special folklore characteristics has been created around Haiyun Temple.However,there are also significant problems to be solved.The present study investigated the current problems rooted in the Rudish-Yuanxiao-Tangqiu Festival and described the theory of urban catalysts.Based on various steps of the development of urban catalysts,the present study discussed the feasibility of introducing the theory into the development of urban folklore festival space and summarized strategies for the development of urban folklore festival space in Qingdao in the light the theory.In the context of special folklore background in Qingdao,the study proposed four kinds of catalysts:the architecture of Haiyun Temple,elements of folklore culture,improvement of infrastructure and interaction of functions.The study suggested preserving core elements of folklore and the festival,coordinating space use,and renewing material environment,in the aspects of strengthening folklore,governmental supports,guidance from policy and multiple collaboration.Finally,the lessons from experiences of failures in festival space management in the past were summarized.
