| With the proliferation of political, cultural and personal exchanges against the background of globalization, there has been an increasing demand for interpreting activities, and thus for great numbers of qualified interpreters to facilitate communication. Conference interpreting, as a high-end career, is regarded as a highly demanding profession According to types of interpreting service, conference interpreting is to interpret for bilingual or multi-lingual conferences, with two ways——consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting. The aim of conference interpreting is to deepen people's understanding and achieve the cooperation. Thus, how to improve the quality of conference interpreting has a pragmatic meaning. Because of its special circumstances and various themes, the influencing factors vary too.This is a report of the author's practice of field interpreting at 2015 Smart Education Summit. By giving an account of the process of the task and analyzing the performance of the interpreter, the author comes to conclusions as to various factors influencing the quality of conference interpreting. These factors are of two types —the interpreter's personal factors and external factors. An interpreter is expected to have basic bilingual ability, know-how of various backgrounds, interpreting skills and psychological quality. The external factors include the speaker, equipment and so on. The corresponding strategies to improve the performance of the interpreter are to strengthen the usual language accumulation and pre-task preparation; in order to improve psychological quality, the interpreter should be ready to talk aloud in public and don't be shy; and get them prepared so that they can be confident enough. As for external factors, the interpreter should be early to arrive at the meeting room and communicate with speaker as much as possible. Only by taking these advantages can the interpreter have a better performance. |
