Ladies with royally granted titles are women who have political identity in the ancient Chinese society, and they have distinguished social status. Inner Ladies with royally granted titles is a part of the imperial system; although the Outer Ladies with royally granted titles is attached to the men bureaucratic system, they still have/has relative independence. Ladies with royally granted titles originated in the Pre-Qin of ancient China, became mature in Sui Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasty. It became perfect in Sui Dynasty, and was institutionalized in Tang Dynasty, and Five Dynasty carried forward Tang's with some changes.Since Ladies with royally granted titles are women who have political identity, there are certainly some management systems, among which daily management institution, conference and celebration management institution and institution of Ladies with royally granted titles have shared responsibility for related affairs. Daily management institution can be divided into affairs of living and funeral rituals management institutions.Conference and celebration management institution can be divided into standardize the related etiquette and responsible for the specific operation institution.There are some ways and reasons for the getting and losing of the status of Ladies with royally granted titles. Of those, ways for investiture include granting, Banshou, Conferring Honor and Huishou, while losing can be realized by identity transformation, dissolution of marriage and depriving. In addition, the political identity of Ladies with royally granted titles exist the possibilities of promotion and demotion.As for the reason,the individual factors,suffer involvement and the changing political situation account for the instability of identity.In addition, with such political identity, Ladies with royally granted titles who have close relation with royal families have the chance to involve in central council. Official Ladies with royally granted titles can have an affect on local politics through assisting husband and son, and show some social responsibilities through social relief especially by assisting clan relatives. Their images of political participation and images in social relief are full of life. Through discussing the issues related to Ladies with royally granted titles in Sui Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasty Period, this thesis helps know one aspect of the politics and women from upper classes of society at that time.
