Although the researches of Hui literature which is a branch of ethnic minority literature have already accumulated to a considerable amount, no real breakthrough has been made and context misreading is still prevailing. This phenomenon is the result of Defamiliarization of Hui literature. In this thesis, defamiliarization theory and concept of "alienation" was integrated and a case study of Zhang Chengzhi's the history of soul was made to analyze the defamiliarization characteristics of Hui literature. Since publication, scholars have studied many aspects of the work except for the obvious tragic side. In this thesis, the tragic features of Hui literature had been investigated through tragic consciousness, tragic spirit and psychology of the history of soul. Research methods of document analysis, case study, and ethnographic had been applied to analyze the characteristics of Hui literature which embodied the integration and differentiation of Islamic culture and the Confucianism.
