Zhang Chengzhi secures his special existence in contemporary Chinese literature for his unique life experiences and creation tracks, which are mainly determined by his mixed ethical background.Though a man of Hui ethnicity, Zhang started literary creation in his second hometown, Inner Mongolia Grassland at a time when the novels of Q.Aitymatov began to sweep China. Zhang’s obsession with Q.Aitymatov’s early and middle works not only enriched his life as a young man, but also opened up new horizons for his literary creation featured principally with ethnical life. Zhang nodded to the freshness of a lyrical making and specialties of grassland culture in Q.Aitymatov’s novels with a changing attitude. He even criticized Q.Aitymatov’s later works as his life experiences accumulated and literary creation proceeded. The effects of culture shaping in Zhang’s works can be traced by his changing attitude towards Q.Aitymatov’s works as inter-ethnical factors blend.Text is the surface medium for zhang’s ethnical miscibility. Regarding ethnical background, zhang and Q.Aitymatov share a lot similarities in life experiences and background of writing, of which the direct reflection is the original mode of presentation as goodness and gloom in ordinary people. The two both share the feature of complexity in unilateral and multilateral narration from the perspective of narrative location in the mode of presentation. As to the motives, the two both are driven by a nunconscious melancholy in that zhang’s work oozes a warm air of lyrical ballads out of a shell at his early stage of reading Q.Aitymatov. Thereupon a status of literary creation as life, writing, and ethnical spirits in one is generated. Besides, folk narrative and bilingual writing enable the two to confluence.Text is a symbol of cultural patterns and values in the sense of ethnical culture. Hence the identity of zhang and his subjects is the ethnical miscibility. On the issue of identity, zhang deals with the origin of culture differently with Q.Aitymatov as well as the center and margin of ideology. As to the way of cognition, the regional works of both Q.Aitymatov and zhangs’s reflect the uniqueness of different ethnical groups in cognitive, mental and spiritual perspectives along with value orientations.The creation of zhang and Q.Aitymatov is periodical and thus imperfect, yet from a deeper point of view, the cultural significance of ethnical miscibility is reflected, which are mainly expressed by myth and reminisce.there are two ways of reminiscing, Q.Aitymatov tries to repair while zhang reflects. Their narrative can be seen as a reconstruction of cultural memories in text for current use as well as future references. It is at first epistemology, point of views and views about the world from margin, about exotic land and others that enriches the way people cognize the world. Second, novels on ethnical memorial structure generate a special mode with regard to the inter-references between text and culture.The possibility of cultural memory reconstruction is also widened.
