Interpretation and presentation of an archaeological site are essential parts of the overall process of site conservation and management, and therefore the research on the presentation has been an important topic in archaeological and museological fields. In recent years, the research on presentation concepts, composition of content and presentation strategies attracts broad interests.The narratology, which founded in 1960s, has been applied in the research on museum exhibition during the past three decades. This article first aims, upon the foundation of past research into the narration of museum exhibition, to study the narration of site presentation including its definition, characteristics and model of communication, exploring the narrative strategies of site presentation through utilizing the theory and research methods of narratology in the case study of Fishbourne Roman Palace and Jorvik Viking Centre in the UK, The Oriental Metropolitan Museum in Nanjing, The Shuidonggou Archaeological Site Museum in Ningxia and some other related site museums. The purpose of this article is to provide a theoretical structure of how to analyze the story, the discourse, and reading of the narration of an exhibition on the site, and furthermore providing useful experiences for the planning of site presentation in the future.
