At present, globalization has been further promoted and various academic exchanges, which are a major trend in present cultural communication, have been held between different countries with a high frequency. The quality and the efficiency of cultural exchanges, to a large extent, depend on the quality of academic interpreting that is influenced by both the academic content and language as well as several non-linguistic factors, such as the audience, the atmosphere of the academic setting and so on.As a field interpreting practice report, this thesis attempts to analyze the following features of academic interpreting:subject-specific content, formal language, and unpredictable settings. Through the analysis of the consecutive interpreting of the speech "Traveling the World through Wine" by two Americans, the author discusses and reflects on the practice by looking into the merits and demerits of her own interpreting. Moreover, the author, by pinpointing the influencing factors of academic interpreting, suggests some coping strategies with an aim to better prepare for interpreting assignments and self-improvement. This paper is expected to identify what it takes to help improve the professional interpreting skills and abilities of a would-be interpreter.
