S. I. Hsiung's Bilingual Writing And His Realization Of Cultural Consciousness

In the 1930s,many intellectuals were eager to solve the problem that how to initiative express themselves and seek communication with the Western world through English to build China's modern discourse,simultaneously insist on national culture standpoint,not as a passive appendant of Western countries.In the 1930s,S.I.Hsiung,a Bilingual writer who wrote books and spreads Chinese images in the UK as a native identity made a continuous exploration of this problem.The period that he studied in British was China's most unrest,broken era.when the colonial context is the strongest for China,S.I.Hsiung went to the UK to engild himself,and began literary creation by accident.But became famous for a while with his Lady Precious Stream in Europe and America.Then Opened up the way to explore fusion between Chinese and Western.Although he had repeatedly hoped to pass a rational China to the West,but Lady Precious Stream was with the Obviously orientalism.Afterwards,S.I.Hsiung continued to think about national identity and cultural identity in West Chamber and University professor,Until 1943,he published The bridge of heaven,which completing more to construct modernity of the traditional Chinese,and also making a more comprehensive thinking on the integration of Chinese and Western.From the Lady Precious Stream to The bridge of heaven,two peaks in his composition of literature,through which S.I.Hsiung finally achieving his cultural consciousness.
