A Report On Interpreting For SSACD Forum From The Perspective Of Communication Strategies

Shandong Province and South Australia have enjoyed good sister province-state relationship since 1986.Every year,the two sides jointly hold a series of events to deepen their friendship and cooperation.The author assumed the role of interpreter for business negotiation in Shandong-South Australia Cooperation and Development Forum in April,2016.This report is based on this interpreting practice.Interpreting is a complicated communicative activity in which problems and emergencies occurred unexpectedly in the process of communication.For this reason,some strategies need to be applied to deal with the difficulties.The author aims to explain the roles of communication strategies in interpreting based on this interpreting practice.Through the analysis of specific examples taken from this interpreting practice,communication strategies turn out to be conducive not only to solving problems,fulfilling communicative goal,but also to saving interpreter's efforts so as to improve the efficiency and quality of interpreting.Furthermore,serious considerations about plights and countermeasures in interpreting are taken to urge interpreters to undertake multiple roles more proactively to ensure the smooth going of interpreting activity.Suggestions,drawn from reflections on the interpreting practice,are expected to benefit and inspire other interpreters.
