The Correlation Between Traditional Confucianism Values,Confucian Ethic Spirituality And Mental Health

Confucian ethics culture is the mainstream culture of the Chinese society for thousands of years,through the history's hone and baptism,it has a deep impact on Chinese thought and behavior.But how it works at the psychological level?This research mainly take "spirituality" as the breakthrough point,compared to western spirituality research,exploring the relationship between traditional Confucianism Values,Confucian ethics spirituality and mental health.Spirituality is a prevalent and high level state of human's mind,is closely related to people's mental health.Western spirituality research mainly based on the religion culture,basically including the eternal faith,emotional connection and the transcendence ourselves.Chinese traditional Confucian culture did not form a strict religious organizations,but it actually has a religious function,as well as a characteristics of humanism,this provide a way for traditional Chinese to achieve their spirituality,this study summarized it as the following respects: “Confucian ethics rise to the heavenly principles”,“universal love”,“the way of holiness”.These three respects corresponding to “cognitive beliefs”,“emotional connection” and “the transcendence ourselves”.In the modern society,how much the Confucian culture influence on people's spiritual and mental health? This is the main problem of this study to explore.This study use the way of literature analysis,questionnaire survey and interview-discussion method,editing the Confucian ethic spiritual scale,preliminary survey collected 602 sample data from all over the world,the formal questionnaire collected 1197 sample data.Through exploratory factor analysis,confirmatory factor analysis,reliability and validity analysis,finally form the formal questionnaire with36 items.Secondly,by the descriptive analysis,t-test,variance analysis,finding out the Confucian ethics spirituality's current situation,as well as demographic data.Finally,under the correlation analysis,regression analysis and structural equation modeling,the main findings are as follows:(1)The Confucian ethic spiritual scale include three aspects: “Confucian ethics rise to the heavenly principles”,“universal love”,“the way of holiness”.The“Confucian ethics rise to the heavenly principles” including the Benevolence and Righteousness belief,the faith to humanity and the faith to family.The “universal love” including interpersonal communications and unifying inter-connectedness.“The way of holiness” including self-fulfilling way,self coping resources and the ideal of life.this scale has a good structure,reliability and validity.(2)The modern peoples' Confucian ethic spirituality level is higher.The subjects have difference in gender,age,education level,number of siblings,marital status,children number and family economic conditions.There have no significant difference in native home.(3)The traditional Confucianism Values and the Confucian ethic spirituality have a significant positive correlation.(4)The Confucian ethic spirituality and mental health have a significant positive correlation,the Confucian ethic spirituality can positively predict then mental health.(5)The Confucian ethic spirituality is a mediator between the relation of The traditional Confucianism Values and mental health,the mediating effect size is 0.077,the mediation effect is 0.856.Summary: The traditional Confucianism Culture have spirituality functions,it will influence the way of Chinese spiritual realization.Confucian ethic spirituality and mental health have a close relationship.
