Political terms, given its abstract and complex nature, are almost impenetrable and intractable in translation."Action Intellectuals",the sixth chapter of The Ideas Broker, which contains a number of highly abstract political terms,is therefore chosen to be the source text for translation with commentary. This thesis, starting from the perspective of Memetics, regards the translation of political terms as the interlingual replication of academic memes.Considering that political conceptions are ideologically and socially rooted, the mutation as a potential outgrowth of their interlingual replication stands out,so that underrepresenting or misrepresenting of semantic and cultural connotations is much more a proclivity. In essence, the problems and blockades in this replication are triggered by the differences between conceptions of two cultures,or the absence of conceptions in the target language.Linguistic compensation to ultimately compensate English conceptions in the Chinese culture is thus decided as the solution. For designated examples under the circumstances of both conception variety and void, this study mainly employs contextual amplification or annotation in practice, foregrounding the variety and filling the void respectively.Under both, conceptions are soundly compensated and academic memes are correctly replicated. The significance of this study is to provide a potential strategy for the translation of political terms, improving translators' sensitivity to political terms and bridging Chinese and English culture.
