Metaphor Translation In The Full Count From A Cognitive Metaphor Perspective

As we all know,metaphor is so common a linguistic phenomenon that great importance has been paid to for a long time.However,traditional metaphor research is limited to the language aspect that regards metaphor as nothing but a kind of figure of speech.The publication of Metaphors We Live By,however,provides us a new train of thought.According to George Lakoff and M.Johnson,Metaphor is the representation of human thought.The cognitive aspect plays an important role in guiding the translation of metaphor.The thesis,first of all,states the definition of metaphor to compare traditional metaphor theory to cognitive metaphor theory.Secondly,the classification of metaphor and the inspiration drawing from it are touched upon.The illustration of theory is far from enough as we are supposed to combine theory with practice.Therefore,we give high priority to the translation strategies used in the translation practice.According to the different types of metaphor,the author employs different translation strategies such as maintaining the image,discarding the image and transferring the image.
