The sinology study achievement of American sinologist Martin W.Huang are abundant and extensive.However,the introduction and analysis of his research achievements by Chinese scholars are not complete and deep enough.This dissertation will focus on Martin W.Huang and his study of desire narrative in order to have further understanding of this American sinologist as well as his viewpoints.Professor Martin W.Huang devotes himself to explore the complicated relationship between yu and qing these two distinguished but closely related concepts in Ming and Qing novels,as well as fictional narrative.Through the introduction of Martin W.Huang's interpretation of yu,his exposition of qing,this dissertation analyzes the intricate changing track from yu to qing in Ming and Qing novels,and points out the problems in his study as well as his contributions in promoting Chinese literature going global.This dissertation is divided into five chapters:Chapter one introduction part firstly makes a brief introduction of the development history of American sinology as well as the main representatives,and studies Martin W.Huang in the big background of American sinology,pointing out his main sinology viewpoints and his research achievements.And then,putting forward the main study object of this dissertation: Martin W.Huang's desire narrative,the research significance.Lastly,the author elucidates the research theory and methods involved in this dissertation.Chapter two and Chapter three analyze in detail Martin W.Huang's study of desire narrative in traditional Chinese fictions.Chapter two mainly introduces Martin W.Huang's interpretation of yu in Ming fictions,it starts from the definitions of yu,analyzing Martin W.Huang's interpretation of yu in different texts,which include material and immaterial desire,female and desire,desire and karma.Chapter three refers to Martin W.Huang's study of qing in Qing fictions,it also starts from the concept of qing,combing Martin W.Huang's interpretation of qing in different novels,which include qing and homoerotic love,purification of qing,complication of qing.Chapter four is about Martin W.Huang's analysis of the extremely complicated development track from yu to qing in Ming and Qing fictions,which include the manifestations of the change from yu to qing,the reasons behind the change,as well as the influence of this change towards Chinese novels.Chapter five is the conclusion part,this part will evaluate and summarize the contributions as well as limitations of Martin W.Huang's research.His research is the forceful complement of the study of traditional Chinese novels,and at the same time,it has great inspirations for promoting Chinese literature going global,but there are also some problems like text misreading.
