A Study Of C-E Interpreting Strategies Of Chinese Culture-loaded Expressions From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

This thesis mainly explores the interpretation of Chinese culture-loaded expressions from the perspective of the relevance theory.Different from the previous research,this study emphasizes the importance of the relevance theory in interpreting Chinese culture-loaded expressions.Furthermore,based on the relevance theory,the specific interpreting strategies of Chinese culture-loaded expressions are put forward in the process of interpreting Chinese culture-loaded expressions.The thesis is composed of five chapters.A brief summary of research background and research significance together with two research questions are provided in the first chapter.Chapter two involves the advances of relevance theory and Chinese culture-loaded expressions in interpretation at home and abroad.Chapter three Chapter four includes case analysis of interpreting of Chinese culture-loaded expressions at press conference.The paper ends with the conclusion that five interpreting strategies can be adopted in interpreting Chinese culture-loaded expressions.It has been found in research that there is strong compatibility between the interpretation and relevance theory.Based on these findings,this thesis concludes five interpreting strategies:corresponding expression,free translation,omission,adding information and borrowing.Admittedly,what have been discussed in this study is far from complete.And some improvements that are expected to make in further research include:expanding the scope of data collected for case analysis,further study about the universality of these interpreting methods,and application of relevance theory into other kinds of interpretation.
