Research On The Historical Thought Of Heinrich Graetz

Heinrich Graetz,a famous German Jewish historian of 19 th century,pioneers to look at the whole Jewish history from the eyes of Jewish people.His masterpiece Eleven Volumes of Jewish History has a profound and far-reaching influence on the understanding of Jewish history.Research on the historical thought of Heinrich Graetz is not only helpful to further clarify his nature as a historian,and comb his historical achievements,but also investigate the interaction between Graetz and the Germany mainstream historiography,and provide useful lessons for present history study.Therefore,it is of great significance to study Heinrich Graetz's historical thought.This thesis is divided into five parts.The first part is the preface which mainly explains the research status of Heinrich Graetz's historical thought at home and abroad,and discusses the necessity of studying the historiography of Heinrich Graetz.The second part primarily introduces Heinrich Graetz's life and works.According to the environment of nineteenth Century and Graetz's academic growth experience,the author puts Graetz in the background of the times,and considers the influence of his early experience to the formation of his historical thoughts.Besides,this part also introduces Graetz's two masterpieces,among which one is the famous eleven volumes of Jewish History,and the other is Construction of Jewish History.The third part is the key part of this paper,which reveals his understanding of the entire Jewish history as well as his historical perspectives on nationality and objectivism.The fourth part,by describing the popularity of Jewish History in Germany,France and America,mainly talks about the spread of Heinrich Graetz's historical thought,and thus illustrates his special contributions to the popularity of Jewish history.The fifth part is to highlight the influence of Graetz's historical thought,which includes the impact on historical compilation and impact on politics.As to the historical aspect,Graetz builds the foundation for the compilation system of Jewish history.And in politics,Graetz constantly taps the national consciousness from the Jewish heart,which plays an enlightening role in the rising of early Zionism.The last part summarizes the historical thought of Heinrich Graetz.
