As a well-known American writer of best-sellers,Suzanne Collins endowed her works with her unique literature talent,exhibiting the realistic meaning in her work through the description towards different characters.The Hunger Games is her representative work.The background of the novel is set in Panem in the North America of the future.Under the totalitarianism of the Capitol Regime,the people of the twelve districts are oppressed for long.To maintain the regime,the Capitol forced the twelve districts to contribute twenty-four tributes(teenagers)to join the live show the Hunger Games.And the only rule exists in the Games is:Kill or To be Killed.The heroine,Katniss,cannot bear the cruel rule and the inhuman oppression,resists the Capitol.At the same time,the resistance spreads and affects the people in different districts;the fire of resistance is triggered.This article attempts to analyze The Hunger Games with the help of Foucault's power theory.Describing the oppression on the people and the resistance from the people,the article,which is dominated by the relationship between the people and the government under the power mechanism,analyzes the function and progress of deconstruction of the power mechanism.With body,knowledge and discourse,this article analyzes the oppression on the people and the resistance from the people.First,the implement of the disciplinary techniques which are hierarchical observation,normative judgment and the examination in the novel is discussed in the article.Through the implement of these three techniques,the Capitol clutches every piece of people's lives,slaving human beings into the docile bodies.And then the article analyzes the relationship among knowledge,discourse and power,namely the symbiotic relationship between knowledge and power,as well as the reflection relationship between discourse and power.The collaboration among knowledge,discourse and power convert the truth and history,maintaining the benefits of the ruler to the greatest degree.Last but not least,the article talks about the resistance under the huge oppression,which spreads and deepens.Through the analysis on the novel,the article reaches a conclusion:no matter it is the novel The Hunger Games or Foucault's power theory,they are universal reflecting a society phenomenon:only with the harmony between people and government,can the society develop better.
