Nigerian writer Chinua·Achebe is one of the most influential black writers in Africa,being entitled “the father of modern African novel".Setting out from African history,culture as well as social development reality,this article demonstrates that Achebe's works criticized Western colonists and reshaped the image of Africa by placing his novels and literary theoretical works in the context of African unique culture and postcolonial theory.The paper is mainly divided into five parts——the introduction part which describes Achebe's creation overview and the value of the research as well as clarifies the related concepts of postcolonial cultural criticism and literary criticism;The second chapter combs the course of literature development in "Black Africa" region and Achebe's creating ideology.The unique growing environment made Achebe's creation have something in common with those of other Black African Writers even though the differences are obvious.The third chapter shows the description of African tribal society and contemporary social reality in Achebe's novels,showing his rewriting of African history distorted by Western colonists and his anxiety and critique for reality.The fourth chapter analyses the characters in Achebe's novels,which highlights his reshaping of African figures.The fifth chapter focuses on the analysis of Achebe's critique for Conrad to emphasize his post-colonial thoughts by presenting White writers' slander and derogatory for black Africa.In general,Achebe shows the African real image in an objective way and breaks colonial prejudice against African.According to the discussion above,it is clear that Achebe has been trying to break the slander and “demonization” about Africa.He writes the true Africa,defies the colonial rule,and fights for African right of speech.His works have made important contributions to the development of African literature and society.
