In 1999,the term “greenspeak” was coined by Harré et al.It refers to the discourses which are about the environment. As ecology is deteriorating and the environmental problems are becoming more severe, the study of “greenspeak” attracts wide attention in the academic circle. In the thesis, based on Fairclough's three-dimensional model,“greenspeak” on the Greenpeace website is analyzed and then the underlying ideology is revealed. In other words, the author makes an ecocritical analysis of “greenspeak”.The thesis is divided into five parts.Chapter One mainly introduces the motivation, significance and methodology of the study as well as the general structure of the thesis.Chapter Two introduces the previous studies between ecology and language, and also gives a literature review of “greenspeak” at home and abroad.Chapter Three gives a detailed explanation of Fairclough's three-dimensional model.Chapter Four makes the ecocritical discourse analysis of “greenspeak” and the underlying ideology is also explored.Chapter Five gives a conclusion of the thesis and points out the contributions and the limitations of the thesis.Fairclough's three-dimensional model is one of the systematic and sound analytic models, composed of description, interpretation and explanation. At the stage of description, the analysis is based on three levels: lexicon, sentence and discourse. At the stage of interpretation, there are some assumptions which are revealed. Finally, the ideology of anthropocentrism is presented at the stage of explanation.Based on the principles of deep ecology, anthropocentrism is detrimental to the environment. Therefore, anthropocentrism should be thrown away in order to deal with the ecological problems. The study shows that there is anthropocentrism under the greenspeak although it advocates to protect the environment. The ideology of anthropocentrism is harmful to environment because in its paradigm the value is assessed from the perspective of humans. As a result, readers should develop the critical capability and cultivate the linguistic sensibility. At the same time, the study also makes an effort to deal with the environmental problems from the perspective of language.
