The Japanese animation is famous for its unique aesthetic style and artistic value,which plays an important part in the world's animation.In the Japanese animation industry,Hayao Miyazaki's retirement sparked a discussion and speculation on the next generation of animation master,and the new animation film director Mamoru Hosoda enjoys extremely high expectation by the Japanese media.In 2006,Mamoru Hosoda's first directed works “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” became a dark horse in terms of Japanese box office,Later,the “Summer Wars”,“Wolf Children ”,“The Boy and The Beast” have won a high evaluation,Mamoru Hosoda is praised by the media as “the successor of Hayao Miyazaki”,“The next Hayao Miyazaki” and so on,and becomes the mainstay of Japanese animation industry.This paper adopts the research methods of text analysis,with the number of Mamoru Hosoda's animations as the main research data,and tries to explore the creation and aesthetic characteristics of Mamoru Hosoda's animation.This paper is composed of three parts.The first part embraces the narrative theme of Mamoru Hosoda's animation,with his personal experience as the starting point.In addition,in this part,the author deeply analyzes that his work mainly focus on family and society as well as the construction of the theme--“always bear hope in mind”.The second part mainly focuses on the characterization of Mamoru Hosoda's work,analyzing the external artistic style and internal personality of the characters respectively.In this part,a conclusion has been made that Mamoru Hosoda gives high priority in spirit-shaping rather than appearance-building in making characters,who also featured solidification in internal personality.The third part discusses the image style of Mamoru Hosoda's animations.Starting from the environmental depiction and the use of camera,the author concludes some specific creative methods applied in his work such as the high-frequency usage of “dynamic background”,“cumulonimbus cloud” as well as the synchronic performances with many characters.
