Through a systematic typological analysis, this research aims to clarify the cultural evolution of the ceramic li tripods in the region of the eastern foothills of the Taihang mountains during the Zhou dynasty.Based on this analysis, the chronology of the ceramic li tripods of the eastern foothills of the Taihang mountains during the Zhou dynasty has been divided into three periods and nine phases.Furthermore, the analysis of the geographical distribution allows the author to divide three large development regions for the Western Zhou period and the Eastern Zhou period. The author then analyzes these spatial distribution patterns and the geographical origins of each types, thus shedding light on the dynamic evolution processes structuring the changes of the ceramic li tripods in the region of the eastern foothills of the Taihang mountains during the Zhou dynasty. Finally, the present research discusses the relations between the spatial distribution of the ceramic li tripods in each of the regions and the different cultures of the local feudal states. The present research is divided into six chapters as follows. The first chapter serves as an introduction. The geographical and historical contexts are presented,as well as the previous research on this topic, and the methodology and goals of this research. The second chapter focuses on typological evolution. It presents each steps of the detailed typological analysis carried out on the ceramic li tripods of the eastern foothills of the Taihang mountains during the Zhou dynasty. The third chapter concentrates on chronology and periodization. The evolution of the ceramic li tripods of this region is divided into three periods and nine phases, which are clearly dated. The fourth chapter analyses the spatial distribution and the origins of these artifacts. In this research, three regions have been defined separately for the Western Zhou and the Eastern Zhou periods. The distribution pattern and evolution processes of each type of ceramic li tripods is carefully analyzed for each region.Furthermore, the author discusses in detail the place of origin and trajectory of development of each type of ceramic li tripods, thus shedding light on the inherited traditions and later development processes of the ceramic li.The fifth chapter focuses on relations between the spatial distribution of the ceramic li tripods and the cultures of the local feudal states.By combining information on the growth and decline of the power and influence of the different feudal states in this region and data on the changes of the cultural structures, this research reaches a better understanding of the distribution and the evolution processes of the ceramic li tripods. The sixth chapter is the conclusion, where the results of this research is synthesized and summarized.
