Through painting history,representational art is one of the oldest method for foundational painting style.representational art means direct reflection and indirect imitation of nature.Reproduction art is an objective reproduction as art language,the viewpoint changes in different era and each art style has its own characteristic.And oversee the development of media material for painting,the oil material itself become more and more important as a “agent” to band colour together.In such circumstances,artists found out more truth about painting media,they were urgently to discover more painting media to maintain the colour and detail of their works.Early 15 th century is what we called “turning point”.When Italian artists were chasing the idea of Renaissance,Jan Van Eyck of Netherlands discover oil as a painting media.This is the birth of oil painting,and attracted people till now.The developing of media material improved the development of oil painting.The artist concentrate more on oil painting but not others(like rock painting,mural or Tempera).And more important,the swift developing of oil media decide that painting itself would be more specify in representational art.The method,style,choice of colour changes due to the birth of oil media.It improved the developing of representational art which enhance the representable and realistic of the object.Van Eyck came out a new idea on oil media based on realistic and rationality,improving artistic thinking and stylist.Using oil instead of Tempera as a painting media,make the representational art developed further.Thanks for the characteristic of oil media material,artist in Van Eyck era can draw anything they want realistically.To make oil painting step up artistically,just like a silent poem and combining physical and spiritual together.The oil media make the paint breath and truly improving the development of paint.So,in this era of Netherland oil media booming,may artists began to win their fame by cutting edge technic,and structure with full detail and vivid colour.The development of Netherlands paint growth swiftly and the whole western painting history goes into a bright new page.I am always fascinating in realistic oil painting.During my study,I found my curiosity on oil media material.Following Van Eyck,the funder of oil painting and inventor of colour,I want to gain more painting knowledge and found out true nature and root of oil painting,to know what make the oil paint developed.representational art and oil media material of Van Eyck era is subject of my study and I will present the great value of it in my work.
