Pencil Rendering Research Of Dunhuang Murals

The Purpose of this paper is to realize the pencil rendering research of Dunhuang Murals,to promot the art value,the religion value and the social value of Dunhuang Murals,to protecte and inheriting the Dunhuang Murals.The main research work is as follows:1)The smoothing pretreatment of Dunhuang Murals.In this paper,the LO smoothing is used to smooth the Dunhuang Murals.This method can reduce the rough feeling of the Dunhuang Murals,also can repair the Dunhuang Murals in a certain extent.In this paper,through the contrast experiment proves the superiority of LO smoothing method.This method can smooth the image at the same time retain the boundary information of the Dunhuang Murals.So the LO smoothing is very suitable for the smoothing of Dunhuang Murals.2)The boundary extraction of Dunhuang Murals.After the smoothing pretreatment of Dunhuang Murals,using the improved Roberts operator to extract the image boundary.After the smoothing,the noise of the murals are smoothed out.So we can use the Roberts operator which has the high positioning accuracy even if is sensitive to noise.Compared with the other boundary extraction operators,Roberts operator has the shortest operation times,and the best boundary extraction result.3)Proposing the pencil rendering method without tonal adjustment.As a kind of hand-painted works of ancient painter,the Dunhuang Murals has its own unique artistic value.The artistic value come from its tonal distribution and the changes of light and shade.The tonal adjustment of Dunhuang Murals will inevitably destroy its artistic value.There are some differences between Dunhuang Murals and common images,in the rendering process the tonal of Dunhuang Murals has not be changed.4)Using the method based on real texture to realise the texture rendering.At present the mainstream of LIC method is time-consuming.But our method only need to select the appropriate pencil texture,and it can quickly achieve the Dunhuang Murals’ texture rendering.5)The realization of the colored pencil rendering.Through the mutual transformation between RGB space and YUV space to get the color pencil rendering results.Experiments show that:our algorithm has realized the pencil rendering of Dunhuang Murals.The rough and broken parts of mural have been repaired,and the visual effect of mural has been improved significantly.Although the Dunhuang Murals became the pencil drawing,have been added the pencil texture,but its color distribution and its tonality have not be changed.The artistic value of Dunhuang murals were fully retained.
