Under the complicated international condition, political discourse is always one of the most important ways for countries who want to take an advantage on discourse power.Because of that, many scholars attempt to study the political discourse from various perspectives. In the field of political discourse translation, critical discourse analysis draws more and more scholars' attention for its novelty.CDA satisfied the research request with combining macro study with micro analysis. The application of CDA theory into translation study provides a new perspective to make the research of ideology in translation. In this thesis, the author takes two translated English versions of remarks on South China Sea issue delivered by Chinese Ministry spokespersons as text data to do comparative study and these 8 reports are from New York Times and The website of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. These two mass media could both represent the mainstream of the public ideology. The analysis is based on Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Model which is an approach of CDA.The thesis firstly reviews the study on the political translation studies abroad and domestic and then reviews the previous study under CDA perspective. After that the author finds out that,as an important theory of CDA,Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Model is practical to do study on translation texts, especially the translation text of political discourse and there is still room to dig out. Then the origin of CDA and Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Model are introduced.Based on the theories of Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Model, this thesis does comparative study to these two English versions about South China Sea issue and tries to find out the differences what have caused that. The analysis is demonstrated from three stages: descriptive stage, interpretative stage and explanatory stage. It studies on the ideology implied by the linguistic structure through analyzing the linguistic features and the social-historical background under which they were formed to reveal the complicated relationship of language and ideology.Through the research, the author intends to explore the interference of ideology on translation texts to prove that Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Model is a practical tool to study on translation text, especially political translation text.
