A Brief Analysis Of Two Years In The Forbidden City-Qing Palace From The Eyes Of Princess Der Ling

Cultural colliding and blending play a key role between nations,so it requires mutual understanding,tolerance and respect in the world.In Orientalism,Edward Said deliberately denies the fact that there exists a certain legality in terms of the western countries' cognition towards the East,which results in the fracture of Self structure.Consequently,he denies the fact that Others and Self constitutes the basis for the integral Self.And Furthermore,he disavows the possibility in terms of the exchange of ideas between Self and Others.In Two Years In The Forbidden City,Princess Der Ling's good intentions towards China make the relations between Others and Self return to the original meaning,avoiding Edward Said's prejudices and biases towards the western civilization.Thereby,it sheds light on China's inherent predicaments since modern times.Owing to the enormous deviations between China's Self cognition and the West's cognition of China in the late Qing Dynasty,China was incapable of conducting normal exchange of ideas with the West,hindering the cultural blending.From the perspective of "eliminating innate prejudices and biases in person perception",this paper focuses on the cultural conflicts between China and the West through the interacting and exchanging process between Princess Der Ling and the Empress Dowager Cixi and others in the Court.On the one hand,the reason behind the cultural conflicts and the personal experience and reflection in her soul and mind will be thoroughly analyzed.On the other hand,through the analysis of the works from Gordon B.Moskowitz's theory of "eliminating innate prejudices and biases in person perception",the reasons behind the constant abrasiveness and head-on collision between the West and China will be uncovered.The lesson must be remembered forever to guide our nation's progress and invigoration.At present,the whole world lives in a global village via the Internet.All the nations play a key role in international affairs.Therefore,all the human beings should eliminate innate prejudices and reach an overall common understanding,which is beneficial to the everlasting peace and development of the world.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter gives a brief introduction to Princess Der Ling,Two Years In The Forbidden City,the theory applied in the thesis,literature review and the theoretical and practical significance of the study.The second chapter is the application of the theory to the analysis of "ethics" and "politics" and'"history" in the book.The third chapter is the application of the theory to the analysis of Cixi's "hobbies" and "customs and habits".The fourth chapter is the revelation to China's current situation and the current global situation.The last chapter is the conclusion of the thesis.
