Beneath the wave of globalization, the government proposes the "going out"cultural strategy, making great efforts to publicizing Chinese culture. As a kind of publicity material which directly serves for the English-speaking tourists, the tourism text is not only an effective tool to introduce China's tourism resources, but also an important channel for disseminating the magnificent Chinese culture.Chinese tourism texts usually cover a vast amount of distinctive cultural information which relates with astronomy, geography, history, literature, legend, local custom, etc.Cultural images can be found everywhere in the tourism texts. The translation of cultural images is more a cultural exchange between two cultures than a linguistic transmission between two language systems. To some extent, the quality of the C-E translation of cultural images will determine the quality of the C-E translation of tourism texts. At present, the quality of the C-E translation of cultural images in tourism texts is still far from satisfactory. Some translations even cause confusion and aversion among English-speaking tourists instead of exhibiting the fascination of Chinese culture. In order to improve this situation and achieve the ultimate goal of spreading Chinese culture,it is necessary for translators to solve the problem of how to translate the cultural images in Chinese tourism texts into English.Reception Aesthetics Theory,as a literary criticism theory,is different from those text-centered theories which are frequently adopted in the research on tourism translation.According to the Reception Aesthetics Theory, the reader is regarded as an overarching concern in the process of translating. It is a striking departure from those text-centered translation theories which demonstrate much regard for texts and authors.Reception Aesthetics Theory advocates translators to put much value on the reader's horizon of expectations, concerning the reader's role in the reading process. This theory provides a new perspective for the study of translation. It puts exclusive emphasis on the importance of the reader's horizon of expectations, which has profound guiding significance for the C-E translation of cultural images in tourism texts. This thesis firstly gives a detailed introduction of the cultural image and the Reception Aesthetics Theory.whereafter,it analyzes the application of Reception Aesthetics Theory in the translation of cultural images in tourism texts. It proves that,on one hand, translators should attach importance to the reader's cultural background and aesthetic preference, trying to shorten the aesthetic distance;on the other hand,it is necessary to retain the cultural images and their peculiar cultural connotations in the source texts as much as possible, which will enlarge the English-speaking tourists'existing horizon of expectations and offer them a chance to experience an exotic flavor in a foreign land. Finally, this thesis concludes several feasible translation methods to translate cultural images in tourism texts, like transliteration plus explanation, literal translation plus explanation and replacement. It is hoped that these methods may contribute to the C-E translation of cultural images in tourism texts...
