Intercultural communicative competence is the ability to communicate effectively with the people from different cultural background in a multicultural setting.With the rapid development of globalization,There is more and more frequent international communication between countries.There is increasing need for the talents with high intercultural communicative competence."The Requirements of College English Teaching" issued by the Educational Department in 2007 also points out the importance of the intercultural communicative competence.Therefore,the research on the intercultural communicative competence of university students has become a concern of many scholars.Based on the theory about intercultural communicative competence,300 non-English major students are selected to be surveyed and 10 students and 10 English teachers are selected to be interviewed.I find that the intercultural communicative competence of the students is very low,especially the intercultural knowledge,consciousness and skill.In my view,the reasons for these problems are as follows:The students ignore the importance of intercultural learning and lack the enthusiasm;The intercultural communicative competence of English teachers is also low;The teaching mode of college English puts more emphasis on language skills rather than culture and ignores the importance of the cultivation to the intercultural communicative competence of the students;The testing system ignores the evaluation for the intercultural communicative competence;The content of intercultural knowledge is not enough in the textbooks;The imbalance of the setting of curriculum and subjects and the lack of English-learning environment and intercultural practice.Last,the strategies to promote the intercultural communicative competence of the university students are put forward:Improving the awareness and enthusiasm of the students towards the intercultural learning;Improving the intercultural communicative competence of English teachers;Changing the traditional teaching mode and putting more emphasis on the culture teaching;Changing the evaluation and testing system and adding more cultural knowledge into the tests;Improving the English textbooks and intercultural textbooks;Strengthening the construction of the setting of curriculum and subjects;Creating the intercultural atmosphere and the opportunities for intercultural practice.
