Carson McCullers is one of the greatest southern writers in America,she created many magnificent works during her short life.The most famous novels are The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,The Ballad of the Sad Cafe,The Member of the Wedding,and Reflections in a Golden Eye.Take a wide view of McCullers’ novels,the writer created a lot rebel,transsexual and transgender characters.These images of otherness which are not be accepted by the society,and both these characters and their different experience have strong connection of the author’s real life.Thus,this article starts with transgender characters,based on queer theory to analyze these unusual images in McCullers’ novels.This article include four parts,the first part is the introduction which states Carson McCullers and the present research of her works,including foreign and domestic one.The main body of this article include three parts,which starts with three novels respectively,they’re The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,Reflections in a Golden Eye,The Ballad of the Sad Cafe.These parts combine McCullers’ special experience with each novel,in the base of queer theory to analyze these unusual characters-their images and their struggle in finding themselves.And try to analyze the challenges with traditional gender concept from these characters,and the aspiration of pluralistic society.
