The Fantasy Elements In His Dark Materials

Philip Pullman is a famous contemporary Children’s Literature writer of England.His fantasy trilogy,His Dark Materials,has attracted much attention in abroad since it was published.However,there are few domestic research about this masterpiece.This dissertation is trying to use three fantasy elements as a clue,show the amazing exploration of Lyra in order to examine the theme of growth which is hidden in the article.This dissertation is divided into three chapters,using the research theory of children’s literature,developmental psychology and fantasy to analyse this trilogy.The first chaper aims to analyse the fantasy image Daemon,highlight its important meaning in helping children know themselves and the world.The second chapter is focus on lyra’s search for the fantasy materials Dust,explore the significanc of free will and encourage the children to be initiative.The third chapter tries to discuss the fantasy environment Parallel world to show how lyra gradually grow up and undertake social responsibilities.This whole dissertation is aiming to explore the deep meaning of the fantasy elements to encourage the creative thinking about children’s growth.
