The yangqin(Chinese Hammered Dulcimer)has a history of400 years in China.The art of yangqin had since branched into different play styles due to assimilation an d innovation of regional art styles,with notable styles such as Guangdong Yangqin,Si chuan Yangqin,Jiangnan Sizhu Yangqin Dongbei Yangqin and Xinjiang Yangqin.All styles features its own musicians,repertoires and playing techniques,making yangqin performing art of each region unique.Since the formation of the People's Republic of China,performing arts of the yan gqin had strived to reach new heights.With the joined effort of the government and ya ngqin artists,the instrument design,composing technique,and performing technique of the yangqin had evolved drastically,creating more variety to express on the instrum ent.This paper features two works of different region,the Guangdong "Lianhuankou" and Dongbei "Suwumuyang",analysing both traditional and rearranged version of t he works to compare and find out how the regional traditions inherited and evolved,a nd to provide my own thoughts on how this tradition can be continued and improved.This paper was divided into four sections:1.The formation of regional yangqin art st yles2.Analysis of two versions of "Lianhuankou" 3.Analysis of two versions of "Suw umuyang"4.Thoughts on the inheritance and innovation of regional yangqin art style...
