| This translation project is to translate the collection of novella Uncle Tom's Children from English to Chinese,which is entrusted by the author's supervisor,Professor Bo Zhenjie.The author as a member of the project is under the responsibility of the last three stories.Requirements of the project are being faithful,being expressive,meeting the convention of Chinese and terminology being in conformity with universal standard.The report is built on the translation practice of Fire and Cloud.This novel is adapted from a true successful event that white men and black men stroke together in a mine of Alabama in 1932 and is also the only one of Wright's literature that ends in success.The story happened during the Great Depression.Hungry miners marched to force the authorities to give relief,and the hero Pastor Taylor eventually made up his mind to lead to march and achieved success after he had the narrow escape from a kidnap by the white raciest.To better comply with the requirements,the author translates under the guidance of foregrounding theory,and summarizes the problems as well as the solutions encountered in translation.Because literary works are form-oriented,the author places more emphasis on the form of translation,for example,1.Dialect in this novel just serves as a way of speaking with no singular points and foregrounding effect,so the author translates it into standard Chinese.2,Dialogue and vulgar language translation should be more colloquial and pay attention to the emotional coloring of words to meet with personalities of characters and specific occasions.3.With regards the translation of sentences beginning with he/she in paragraph,on the basis of retaining the original writing features to the most extent,the author tries to achieve the cohesion and coherence of the whole paragraph by using some relevant translation techniques.4.Foreignization is adopted to translate the figures of speech to convey the original culture and foregrounding effect as much as possible. |
