Archaeologically excavated funerary documents form the Western Han Dynasty record a number of funerary items,including foods and utensils.They are very important for us to understand the food names and the dietary culture in the Western Han Dynasty.Based on existing research,this thesis enquires into the arrangement of data and the explanation to the inscriptions.It mainly focuses on 17 batches of the Western Han Dynasty funerary documents that record foods.The materials come from:Fenghuangshan tomb No.8-No.10 and No.167-No.169,Zhangjiashan tomb No.247,Dafentou tomb No.1,Xiejiaqiao tomb No.1,Mawangdui tomb No.1 and No.3,Luopowan tomb No.1,Pingshanyangzhichang tomb No.3,Han Jianghuchang tomb No.1 and the cultural relics museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong etc.The dissertation involve three main parts.The first part presents collected interpretations,of the existing research of the Western Han Dynasty Qiance recorded food names.It orgnizes scholars' opinions,including the analyses of the funerary objects' names and the funerary documengts' sequence.The second part presents a classification of the foods recorded in the funerary documents.The third part discuss about the characteristics Western Han Dynasty funerary documents and the dietary culture they reflect.
