The Awakening is a work by Kate Chopin. After being published, the book was condemned and banned for many of the following decades. The novel not only vividly describes female sexual desire but also undermines the idea of a woman's traditional role in society. The novel began to be valued in the 20 th century and now is regarded as a classic American literary work. Some scholars point out that the author of The Awakening,Kate Chopin,as a female writer, even goes to the front of many male writers of her time.Critics coming from a feminist point of view have studied The Awakening and Chopin, and their research is rich and valuable. But the research is only from feminism itself. In view of this, this article attempts to explore the aesthetic meaning and value of this novel by analyzing and appreciating the absurdity found in it.The first chapter briefly introduces The Awakening and describes the relevant principles and absurd aesthetic principles, introducing the origin and development of the principles and the ultimate certain significance. The second chapter summarizes the domestic and international research status,as well as the purpose and significance of this research perspective. In the third chapter, this article discusses and analyzes in depth the absurdity found in The Awakening. The understanding and comprehension of the absurdity of human existence in an environment is reflected in three stages: the discovery of absurdity, the fight against absurdity, and the absurd tragic ending of the absurd hero.At first, the traditional concept of the patriarchal system is the dilemma of her social existence, which can be understood by analyzing the absurdity of the environment in which Edna exists. This is a typical absurd living environment.Edna's family dilemma is not only from her father, who is the representative of hard line patriarchy, but also from her husband, who has no ability to communicate with her.Actually, this is a kind of indifference to the unreasonable living conditions, which helps form the aesthetic effect of absurdity.Edna's plight also comes from the cowardice and compromise of women in a patriarchal society, represented by Ratignolle. This living environment is obviously unreasonable for the female group, including Edna.Through these analyses, the author gives readers a series of absurd aesthetic psychological experiences. The author then discusses Edna's resistance to this absurd environment. This resistance is manifested in the pursuit of self-existence,the pursuit of emotional freedom, and the establishment of self-independence,which shows Edna's qualities as the absurd hero. This also reflects the absurdity of her resistant behavior against the background of patriarchal society. At last, the author analyzes the absurdity of Edna's tragic ending. The conflict between the realistic living situation and the will to attempt to transcend this kind of living situation is the fundamental problem of human survival, and the root cause of tragic conflict. The old things will always suppress the emergence of new.Even new things that seem to have initial success are doomed to fail. This failure is a transitional phase, and also a tragic zone. The fourth chapter analyzes the aesthetics of The Awakening.Edna's absurd image has rich and profound aesthetic connotations, which show that she has a strong belief in breaking through staleness, getting rid of the old,and creating the new counter to tradition. This belief has a positive meaning, expressing the vitality of life and showing the positive and enterprising spirit of humans. This spirit and belief are the driving force for the development of human society, promoting the development of human society in a more civilized and harmonious direction. The fifth chapter describes the significance of the aesthetics of absurdity in The Awakening. The author thinks that the intention of Kate Chopin creating this novel in that she wants to reveal one kind of absurdity through another kind absurdity in order to alert people. Its significance lies in exposing the plight of women in patriarchal society. The novel gives people power and hopes to breakthrough the predicament using the description of Edna's thoughts and behavior.Edna fails in her struggle, but the process of human society is formed step by step in the struggle of the dilemma of restricting existence and development of human beings themselves. The source of power that supports this struggle is the human desire for freedom and equality. Therefore,in the author's opinion,The Awakening has rich meaning in aesthetic absurdity. This not only lies in the heroine's awakening and resistance to the absurd living environment that bring a series of aesthetic experiences to the reader, but also lies in the fact that the heroine makes a perfect interpretation of the connotation of the absurd hero by showing her character and behavior. Moreover, the novel provides an aesthetic inspiration to human societal processes on the basis of one's living situation.
