Greetings are everywhere in our lives and accompany us by the side.Greetings are the most basic and important part in a language.It’ s the precondition for a successful communication and an important way to maintain relationships among people.Though greetings are repeated every day in our lives no one thinks it is a trouble thing or there is no necessary to do it.That is because greeting the other people is a kind of etiquette and a vinculum to maintain people’s relationships.Greetings also reflect a nation’ s culture and people’ s living and thinking habits.For many foreign language learners,greetings are often the first class they have.It can be seen that greetings occupy an important position in language.Korea and China are neighboring countries in geography and are interests related.Therefore the two countries communicate each other a lot.In history,the civilization of ancient China affected many neighboring countries.It is been a long time since Korea and China affect and exchange each other in politics,economy and culture.In ideology,the two countries both praise highly of Confucianism and can understand each other better.In modern society,as international exchanges and cooperation and cultural fusion between different countries Korea and China became more closely related to each other.The two countries affect each other in many aspects including politics,economy and culture.On the one hand,as a Korean tidal wave in the vast land of China Korean cosmetics and tourist resorts attract many Chinese people to go to Korea.On the other hand,the vast market of China attracts many Korean investors to come to China.The exchanges between the two countries are not only about business cooperation but also political exchanges in diplomacy,cultural exchanges such as the film and television industry,academic exchanges through international conferences and sending exchanging students.More and more people in Korea and China choose to learn the other country’s language for better exchanges and cooperation.As an important part in communication,the ill usage of greetings can cause serious consequences.So the correct learning of greetings is very important.Greetings cover a wide range.Scholars have different understandings about the concept of greetings.Studies about greetings are conducted both in Korea and China but most of them are for the purpose of language education.Few thesis are about the contrasts of greetings in Korea and China.In the comparative thesis the authors often focus on Korean greetings.There is no deep analysis of Chinese greetings and no detailed description of the emotional expression in the two languages.Therefore,this paper tries to contrast Korean and Chinese greetings through the chapters below.The first chapter states the purpose and necessary of the study and explains the research object and research methods.It also makes an overview of the previous researches.The second chapter defines greetings after analyzing the meanings of greetings in dictionaries and thesis and classifies greetings according the purpose of this study basing on the previous researches.The third chapter lists and compares the frequently_used greetings in daily life and analysis their meanings and expressions of feelings and their usage in the daily life.The forth chapter makes a summary of the characteristics of greetings in Korea and China through the contrast and analysis in chapter three.It analyzes the similarities and differences between the two countries and the reasons for the formation from the aspects of language.The fifth chapter lists the contents of the thesis and comes to the conclusion.At the same time the thesis’ s limitations and the future development direction is indicated.
