This is an English-Chinese translation report, which is based on the translation of the Prologue and the first three chapters of the love novel The Tea Planter's Wife written by British novelist Dinan Jefferies. It is a novel full of exotic cultural characteristics. The story mainly tells about the heroine Gwen,a girl from Britain, who lived her marriage life in Sri Lanka and how she gradually had matured into a woman during the cultural conflict and twists and turns of her marriage.Focusing on the exotic cultural characteristics of the source text and the important and difficult points during the translation process, the report aims to summarize the translation strategies and translation methods specific to the cultural elements contained in the source text.Under the guidance of the cultural translation theory, the report analyzes the cultural elements in specific translation cases and summarizes the translation strategies and methods in terms of vocabulary, sentence and syntagm aspects,in order to illustrate that translation should not only pay attention to the translation skills or "equivalence" on language level, but also lay emphasis on the cultural aspects.Only in this way can the translation achieve the basic requirement of "faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance",and at the same time highlight the translatability of culture.
