Constructing Harmonious Home-Interpretation Of Toni Morrison's Home From The Perspective Of Eco-criticism

As the winner of Nobel Prize for Literature,Toni Morrison is a prominent Afro-American female writer in contemporary American society.Home is her tenth novel,which was published in 2012.It has attracted praises and attentions from experts and scholars abroad and at home since it was published.Nowadays,most articles and theses research novel from the perspectives of thematic analysis,traumatic theory and narrative strategies or comparing it with Morrison's former works.It is a new attempt to interpret Home from the perspective of eco-criticism.Eco-criticism is a combination of literary researches with contemporary ecological thoughts,is a kind of greenization of literary researches and also is a kind of comprehensive response to ecological crisis.It mainly reveals ecological thoughts,which are embodied in literary works.Ecocritics advocate that human beings should come back to nature and get spiritual relief.This thesis adopts Lu Shuyuan's "ecological trichotomy" thought as theoretical foundation to research how natural ecology,social ecology and spiritual ecology are embodied in Home from the perspective of eco-criticism.They are restricted and prompted mutually.Only by means of coordinating these relations,human beings can construct truly ecological harmonious home.Because of the deterioration of ecological environment,eco-criticism emerges as required.Morrison's Home gives expression to the characteristics of eco-criticism.On this basis,introduction in this thesis presents Morrison's creating concepts as well as academic researches on her and Home abroad and at home and further proposes the significance of this thesis.The thesis mainly interprets ecological thoughts in Home from the aspects of natural ecology,social ecology and spiritual ecology.On the aspect of natural ecology,Morrison shows her natural views through the depiction of natural scenery on western land,destruction of nature as well as the relation between human and nature.In addition,racial discrimination,alienated family ties and other contradictions within the blacks all bring the damage to the growth of Frank and Cee.Morrison's social ecological thoughts on mutual assistance,harmonious co-existence are shown through the integration of Cee to the black community as well as the reunion between Frank and Cee.In the meantime,the distorted social relations lead to the imbalance of spiritual ecology.According to the description of the protagonists'"vacuum of spirit",Frank's final self-salvation and the reconstruction of Cee's self-identity,Morrison advocates that love is a great way to reconstruct the blacks' spiritual ecology.In conclusion,Morrison concerns on the relationship between human and nature,man and society as well as man and man,and advocates only by means of returning to the nature,establishing mutual tolerance and universal love within various races can we truly build ecological harmonious home.
