A Study On English Translation Of Metaphorical Words In Classical Chinese Poetry From The Perspective Of Concept Construal

This paper is based on concept construal operation.Concept construal is a very important concept of cognitive linguistics.It is the ability to construe the same situation in many different ways.Talmy(1977),Croft&Cruse(2004)etc.linguisticians have done the classifications and systematic studies on construal theory.Wang Yin(2004),Wen Xu(2007),Shu Dingfang(2012),Tan Yesheng(2009)etc.also discussed the application of conceptual construal theory in translation.The application of construal theory in translation not only opens up a new field for the study of translation,but also provides a new perspective for the development of cognitive linguistics.Selecting the related English versions of Classical Chinese poetry as texts.Classical Chinese poetry has a history of more than two thousand years,and it is not only an important part of Chinese traditional culture,but also an art treasure in the world.Classical Chinese poetry needs to go to the world,and the world needs to understand it,while the translation of classical Chinese poetry is an important means to promote Chinese traditional culture.Focusing on English translation of metaphorical words in classical Chinese poetry.Shu Dingfang(2000:120)believes that poetry is metaphorical language.Metaphor is a common figure of speech in Chinese poetry.The translation of metaphor in poetry has been of great concern.To some extent,metaphor image is the central image of a poem.Therefore,the translation of metaphor is the key to the translation of poetry.This paper chooses four kinds of metaphors:metaphors of kinship,love,friendship;metaphors describing life reflection;metaphors describing emotional feeling towards homeland;metaphors describing political satire.This paper starts from the perspective of concept construal operation of cognitive linguistics,and chooses English versions of classical Chinese poetry as corpus,in addition,it focuses on English translation of metaphor,analyzes and discusses guiding significance of concept construal(scope and background,perspective,salience,specificity)towards English translation of metaphor in classical Chinese poetry.
