In 1930 s,both of Pearl S.Buck,American female writer and Ye Zi,Chinese left-wing male writer, wrote their works with Chinese rural areas as the subject matter. They described the suffering of the peasants, revealing deep love for this land. They, after all,are from different countries.Although both are committed to the performance of the bottom China peasants' life, different cultural background and literary ideal, different perspective of observation, and value orientation make their writing definitely different. With the perspective of culture,Pearl S.Buck explored the relationship between man and land, describing, equally and gently,Chinese farmers' living condition which integrated several thousand years of agricultural civilization with the feudal culture; And with the class stand,Ye Zi depicted the miserable life of the peasants from a proletarian revolutionary perspective, revealing original causes of peasants' suffering and trying to point the way out for them.Pearl S.Buck paid particular emphasis on showcasing Chinese traditional culture to Western readers, while Ye Zi tended to show great transformative power of Chinese peasants to the revolutionaries and masses. This paper discusses the question about "land writing" from a comparative study,in order to offer a new perspective to research differences between Pearl S.Buck's novels and Chinese left-wing writer, with Ye Zi as a representative,of land writing. The main contents and results are divided into thefollowing sections:The first chapter will discuss first how Pearl S.Buck and Ye Zi became attached to Chinese land, and why they chose the land as the window to express emotional feelings. Then I will explore the common ground of their writing of Chinese land. The second chapter will focus on the analysis of differences between the images of farmers and different exploration of the outlet of farmers between Pearl S.Buck and Ye Zi.Committed to promote cultural communication between Chinese culture and Western culture,Pearl S.Buck was always concerned with fine qualities of Chinese farmers and tapped into their China spirits, and she argued that farmers should return to the land.Ye Zi,possessing a firm political stand, displayed the courage to revolute, and he believed that the best way for farmers is to leave the land. The third chapter will pay attention to the origin causes of differences between Ye Zi and Pearl S.Buck.The ultimate aim of Pearl S.Buck's writing is to explain China to the west.At that time, the United States is in a period of confusion and losing,Pearl S.Buck explored the relationship between man and land by the universal land complex to convey Chinese excellent traditional culture and introspected mankind's fallen nature in the west. The implied reader of Ye Zi is the majority of workers. In 1930 s,when the proletarian revolution ideology prevailed, works with revolutionary struggling theme called for political consciousness through the realistic creation method for, which catered to political and cultural psychology of the public. The fourth chapter will return to the comparison of Pearl S.Buck and Ye Zi land in their writing of land. Both made great contributions to the writing of Chinese land. The former build a bridge of communication between Chinese and Western culture, which even today has a very high value and significance. And the latter, whose revolutionary novels,is a move ahead of nation-reconstruction for Chinese modern writers. He wrote his concerns of farmers and the outlet of them.In 1930 s,when revolution consciousness occupied the leading position,Pearl S.Buck's writing on China rural society aesthetic was sure to make up,to certain extent, for deficiencies China modern local writers made on the ecological implication description of rural areas, and provided us a more comprehensive understanding of the countryside in 1930 s.And Ye Zi described farmers' miserable living conditions, based on his own vagrant experience, conveying identical psychological needs.
