| Translation,as a sophisticated cross-cultural human behavior,is affected by numerous factors which involves the author,the translator and the reader,etc.It is of no doubt that the translator acts as a most important factor all through the translating activity.The essence of creativity in the translation process comes from translator’s subjectivity.However,throughout the long history of translation study,translation has been viewed as a pure linguistic task.The role of the translator has been ignored before the 1980 s.Not until the cultural turn has the status of translator been recognized.People gradually recognize translator’s influence on translation.Jane Austen is a most renowned female novelist of the nineteenth century,who wrote quite a few novels in her life including Sense and Sensibility,Pride and Prejudice,Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.Her characters as well as herself have become the most memorable figures in English literature.Pride and Prejudice is one of her most well received novels,winning a worldwide reputation.The novel is renowned for the delicacy of structure,vivid depiction of characters and jocular language.Since introduced to China,it has been popular with Chinese readers.Of the numerous translated versions,the most outstanding and well-received are the two translation versions translated by Wang Keyi and Sun Zhili.In this study,the author will make a comparative study of the two translation versions of Pride and Prejudice translated by Wang Keyi and Sun Zhili from the perspective of translator’s subjectivity.Hopefully,the exploration of the role of translator in this study can shed some light on the future study of translator’s subjectivity,and provide some enlightenment for future translation studies and translation practice. |
