On The Translation Of Pound's Early Poems Based On Relevance Theory

The source text of this translation project,Chapter Two of the literary research monograph Ezra Pound's Cathay,is an analysis of the literary techniques of Pound's early poems.On the basis of the poetry translation practice,the translator probes into the translation process in the light of Relevance Theory.According to Relevance Theory,translation is an ostensive-inference process.Adhering to the manifestation by source-language writer,the translator should make effort to realize the optimal relevance of the target text within the cognitive environment so as to provide optimal contextual effects for target readers.In this report,based on the principles of Relevance Theory,the author analyzes the parallel text of poetry translation and discusses the basic objectives for poetry translation and the applied translation strategies.Based on the analysis of the linguistic features of Pound's poems,the translator attempts to reproduce the thematic significance and aesthetic significance by adopting the translation strategy of explicitation for the purpose of the realization of the optimal contextual relevance.
