A Study On The Word Classes Labeing Of The Disyllabic Antonyms In Modern Chinese Dictionary (6^th Edition)

Categorization is the core problem of linguistics,and the study of language categories such as word classes is even regarded as the “particle of God” in linguistics by the 36 th annual meeting of the German Linguistic Society in 2014.Modern Chinese of the word class has been the academic community is a long-standing problem,while it has a direct impact on the modern Chinese dictionary and modern Chinese Corpus.Two Level Word Class Categorization Theory(TLWCCT)is a new research perspective put forward by Professor Wang Renqiang in recent years,aiming at the multi functions of modern Chinese and modern English.This theory based on the concept of the Complex Adaptive System and the concept of cross linguistic word class,clarified the distinction and connection between the lexicon in a communal language and word token in syntax.What’s more,it points out that the classification of word class can be judged by four standards--token frequency、type frequency、time span and register distribution.TLWCCT plays an important enlightening function to solve the problem of the word class labeling of modern Chinese dictionary and Chinese-foreign language dictionary.This paper is based on the investigation of word class of disyllabic antonyms in Modern Chinese Dictionary(the 6th edition),finding some example of a clear violation of the peiciple of symmetry In the 1919 entries we examine,there are 532 entries corresponding to the antonym of the word class labeling is asymmetric.The proportion is 27.72%.We further screened out the 424 high-frequency entries,and screened out the antonymn of the 30 groups.Based on the TLWCCT,we makes a survey of the courps ues patterns.We found: The modern Chinese dictionary(6th edition)in the word class labeling insistence on the "simple principle",uphold the word classes as little as possible point of view.This reflects the lack of attention to he cultural heritage of the generalization words in the lexicon of the community language level,which leads to the asymmetry of some of the multi function entries in the word class labeling.This paper hopes to attract more scholars’ attention so as to deepen the study of modern Chinese word class and improve the quality of modern Chinese dictionary,so as to better serve the international promotion strategy of Chinese.
