This is a translation project report on Social Media and Personal Relationships: Online Intimacies and Networked Friendship by Deborah Chambers,of which Chapter 2 Technologically Mediated Personal Relationships is the source text.The main contents of the source text discuss that the establishment and maintenance of contemporary personal relationships are no longer depending on a single technology,but rather on the diversification of media.This new poly-media environment has already led to the change of the ways of interpersonal interactions,that is,a shift from technologically-dominated to technologically-mediated interpersonal interactions.This new dynamic can be regarded as a re-socialization of media,which will offer more options for interpersonal communication.The translator has adopted two translation theories including Reiss' s text typology theory and Vermeer's skopos theory to restore the information of the source text in the process of translating,with the purpose of enabling the readers have an overall understanding of the nature of mediated personal relationships in the modern society as well as the impact of social media diversity on interpersonal interactions,thus changing people's perspectives on traditional intimacies and friendship.The translation report includes the background and significance of the ST,contents and linguistic features of the source text,translation theories,the difficulties in the process of translating and solutions,as well as the experiences summarized through translating.
