The Academic Value Of Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics

Hao Yixing is the famous exegesis of Qing Dynasty,his Shanhaijing Exegetics is one of his representative works.The thesis made a systematic research from textual criticism perspective which was composed with the Bi Yuan's Shanhaijing Emendation and other old annotations,and investigated the notes that Yuan Ke's Shanhaijing Collation Notes absorbed from Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics.Then we can sum up Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics' s annotation characteristics and orientate its contribution in the academic history of Shanhaijing.The prolegomenon of this thesis discusses the original text,the time of completion and edition of this book;summarizes the stylistic feature of annotation genres.The main body of the thesis is from three aspects of emendation,exegetical studies and textual research on its achievements and characteristics.The main contents of the emendation makes a comparative study from the type of writing errors such as the corrects,removals,derivatives,reverses and variants.Hao Yixing always annotated with sufficient reasons and arguments.There are 75 examples for this part,which including60 new emendation achievements,to put 9 previous incorrect emendation right,and to proof 6 previous annotations that need to supplement.The exegetical part classifies from Hao Yixing's exegetical methods.Which including inference meanings from sounds,to distinguish the words' font for its meanings,to direct explain the meanings of words,to quote some ancient notes,to use things that exist nowadays to prove the former things and to certify literature.There are41 examples for this part,which including 21 new exegetical achievements,to put 4previous incorrect exegesis right,and to proof 16 previous annotations that need to supplement.The textual criticism part has three parts,the name and description of a thing,the geography,the God and human research,including research the color,shape and function of animals,plants and minerals,and the differences or similarities between the names of the characters,their identity and the mountains and rivers.There are 59 examples for this part,which including 35 new textual research achievements,to put 16 previous incorrect textual research right,and to proof 2 previous annotations that need to supplement.The author also discusses Hao's book plagiarized from the previous annotations.Therefore,its emendation achievements can help to restore the true face of Shanhaijing,the textual research can make the obscure of Shanhaijing clearly,which had laid a profound,extensive and reliable literature foundation for later scholars' study.Many later scholars used Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics for academic research work.For example,the contemporary masters of Shanhaijing research Yuan Ke,his Shanhaijing Collation Notes was choosed Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics as his original text,who kept more than half of the Hao Yixing's achievements back.These achievements included emendation,exegesis,textual research which were Hao Yixing noted.Therefore,Hao Yixing's Shanhaijing Exegetics is the backbone of so many Shanhaijing notes.Yuan Ke's Shanhaijing Collation Notes is important to the contemporary scholars who study the Shanhaijing.
